Interest-rate futures traders added to bets that the Federal Reserve would increase its benchmark interest rate by September, after the Labor Department said Friday that the U.S. unemployment rate fell to 9.7% last month from 10% in December. The fed funds rate, the central bank's overnight target interest rate for loans between banks, has remained at a range of zero to 0.25% for more than a year. Fed fund futures showed traders see an 80% chance that the central bank will raise interest rates to 0.5% by September, a little higher then before the report. Futures for December indicate a 75% expectation that rates will rise by 75 basis points, or 0.75%, by the end of the year, about the same as before the jobs data.
